Completely and Utterly Unique Winter AirBnBs [OMG Category]
Whether you’re looking for unique winter Airbnbs for a quick weekend getaway in the US, or an out-of-the-box long-term rental for a vacation in Canada or Europe, I’ve got you covered.
Winter is the perfect time to reconnect with our loved ones or take a quiet break for ourselves. There’s always the option to stay in a cozy cottage for a winter getaway but sometimes it’s nice to add a little pazazz into a vacation rental. These unique winter Airbnbs spark imagination while featuring winter at its most brilliant state. Bask in the winter sun from the comfort of a very much shut window, or make a magnificent snow angel out front.
My motto is life is too short not to stay in an igloo once! Well, it could be my motto. From my time staying in a Mongolian Yurt to that time I slept at a Tibetan Monk Monastery, a change of scenery can create memories that are as strong as stone. That’s why you’ve got to check these places out.
We’ve got a range from digital detoxes off the grid to complete modern luxury steps away from town. These are my fave unique wintertime AirBnBs for the USA, Europe, & Canada below!
USA-WINTER AIRBNBS
Lavender Castle
WASHINGTON, USA
Let’s get this list started with a good ol’ castle. At the Lavender Castle, you can live out your best medieval dreams and better yet, sustainably! This exuberant castle is remarkably solar-powered. So, while you’re dining at the grand 8-foot wood slab table or casually lounging next to the magnificently huge fireplace in the center of the house, you’ll feel good about your choices. Bring 11 of your friends and wander the highly decorated halls in medieval costume. It’s an experience for the books. And you can even bring your fluffy friend!
Mountain Home 15 miles From Breck
COLORADO, USA
This sleek 1,000-square-foot mountain rental gives you the seclusion and privacy people crave when venturing into the woods. You’ll be surrounded by towering trees and ridiculously gorgeous views of the Rockies that you can enjoy from the comfort of the modern interior. And when you’ve had enough of high thread count sheets, heated floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, and the fully equipped kitchen, you can hit the slopes at nearby Breckenridge!
Red River Gorgeous
KENTUCKY, USA
You’ll have to work for this view but after doing the 178 suspended stair climb, it’s worth it. I’m not sure you’ll ever be able to experience anything quite like this. For the athletic adventurer, the Red River Gorgeous is an isolated but romantic getaway that will turn into a lifelong memory. Indulge in the canopy views from the balcony and enjoy the tranquility this unique rental offers. Word of Advice: Remember to pack light so you have a free hand to climb the stairs!
The Wolf House
Minnesota, USA
Enter the magical world of this 1,800-square-foot home. With walls covered in breathtaking murals and a perfect location in Minneapolis’s Art District, you won’t want to leave. Newly renovated, you’ll be able to enjoy updated amenities and a two-person soak tub when you’re done getting your steps in the city. Whether you’re a business traveler who needs to get some work done, or someone looking for life inspiration, this place is a great option for a winter Airbnb.
The Hideaway
Montana, USA
Experience the beautiful landscape of Montana in a home that simply isn’t like the rest of them. With a hidden private bathroom and a shower, you can only access through a tree trunk, you’ll be discovering uniquely designed quirks of this place your entire stay. The Hideaway is a charming Earth Home that handles the sub-zero Montanan temps like a pro. Private but not remote, you’ll be able to access the nearby town in the off chance you want to leave (not likely).
EUROPE-WINTER AIRBNBS
Converted Turkish Bath House
Hastings, England
If you stop by this cute town in England, you’ll have the option to stay at this renovated Turkish Bathhouse from 1868. Pass the time by simply taking in everything there is to look at inside or have yourself a round of bowling. Yes, I said that. Bowling, there’s a bowling alley! And not just a bowling alley, but a secret cinema room too. Maybe it’s just me, l but I think the cool factor goes up exponentially when there are secret rooms to discover.
Highland Airship
Drimnin, Scotland
Give yourself a weekend stargazing from the comfort of this fully insulated sustainable pod. Designed by Roderick James, this ship pod is made from aluminum offering breathtaking views of The Sound of Mull. Picture it, catching up with a new book, or maybe writing that new book with a view like this. It’s difficult not to be inspired and restored. Grab some groceries and a nice bottle of red and hunker down this winter in this cozy unique stay for a few nights.
Les Gîtes des Châteaux
Bourré, France
A rare chance to stay in a troglodytic house (cave house) in the Loire Valley. This place gives rustic cozy vibes in a prime location. Unlike anything you’ve stayed in previously, you can lounge within the cave keeping warm near the quaint pellet stove or enjoy the impressive views of the grounds from the terrace. 100 meters from the nearby town and with loads of activities available on or near the property, you’ll have countless options for a customized cave vacation.

Ljutomer, Slovenia
Escape the city to a world of rest and relaxation inside this Earth Hobbit Home. This unique stay is entirely made from natural materials, becoming one with the Earth that surrounds it. Snow Igloo
Pelkosenniemi, Finland
Definitely an experience unlike the usual. Inside this unique wintertime escape, you will have the chance to sleep on real beds in sub-zero temps. I would say this isn’t for the faint at heart but no worries, the host, Antti, provides thick sleeping bags so you can get some rest before your search for the Northern Lights begins. There’s snow art to explore on the inside and endless wilderness to explore on the outside. If you want unique accommodation this cold weather season, this is high up on the winter AirBnBs list.
CANADA-WINTER AIRBNBS

Mayne Island, British Columbia
Welcome to your fairy tale. This quirky one-of-a-kind cottage is cozy and cuddly and perfect for staying in during cold winter nights. Handcrafted using sustainable and local natural materials, the cob cottage is great for couples who want to snuggle up to a lit fireplace or play a riveting game of Scrabble. Le MICA
Lac-Beauport, Quebec
Experience high-end micro-housing just 25 minutes from Old Quebec. The design of this house is what sets it apart from the rest: a minimalistic layout, clean lines, and large windows that give way to the best and highest view of Lac-Beauport. Seclusion without complete remoteness. You’ll have more than enough hiking to keep you busy, with 20 km of trails open year-round. But if you’re coming this winter, remember that you will only be able to access this rental with a 4 X 4 or an all-wheel drive car.
Pit Stop 518
Kearney, Ontario
Enjoy the simplicity that Yurt life can offer! This rental, located near Algonquin Park & Arrowhead Park, offers plenty of cross-country skiing, sledding, and hiking trails available all season. The hosts provide everything you need for a quiet weekend away. It’s a fun experience that truly puts emphasis on enjoying the nature that surrounds it.
Converted 1969 School Bus
Sooke, British Columbia
Chill out in the coolest retro-style restored school bus in all of Canada. The host, Miranda made sure her guests would be comfortable, outfitting the bus with all the bells and whistles while also keeping an old-school design in the forefront of her mind. The renovated space offers guests a queen-sized bed, a propane fireplace, stand-up shower, the best outhouse you’ll ever see, and a cute sitting area. Just a word worth mentioning; NO WIFI. Don’t freak out. It’s gonna be okay. There are cards, board games, and potentially other humans if you think to bring some.
Maisons Miroirs
Petite Rivière Saint François, Quebec
Contemplate what nature is and what it could be with this uniquely styled mirror house. So subtly designed from the outside you feel as if you are effortlessly relaxing into the natural surroundings. Each outside mirror panel is 40 feet tall. It truly is a magnificent spectacle in and of itself. Modern and sleek on the inside, guests can enjoy alpine weather in real comfort. No reviews yet, this property is brand new to list. Be the first to let the public in on its secrets!
Helliwell Bluffs
Hornby Island, British Columbia
Relax into the meadows with views overlooking Helliwell Park. This stylish home is so seamlessly set into its surroundings, the roaming deer and mink will hardly notice you’ve stopped by to watch them. You’ll be more than comfortable in the wintertime, with heated stone floors running through the home and a fireplace perfect for two. You can even pretend to be in at an exotic spa during your stay while relaxing in the outdoor tub dug into the meadow. Love that.
There are so many options out there in the world, it would be a shame not to enjoy the ones with a bit more flavor from time to time. I love creating travel memories; from unfamiliar cultures I’m introduced to overseas, to the Airbnb hosts that give me tips about their beloved cities. These unique stays will definitely help you create lifelong memories while wandering the streets, forests, or mountains of your next vacation.
