The Complete List of Where to Stay in Hong Kong
Every time I have friends or family visit me, I’m asked: “Where should I stay in Hong Kong?” And my honest answer is usually, “Anywhere!” But I recognize this isn’t the most helpful (sorry, Dad!). So here is my guide to the best places to stay in Hong Kong.

Where to Stay on Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong Island will be the most obvious choice for accommodation for good reason. There’s a great deal to do here. First off, it’s home to a great party scene. There are speakeasies, rooftops, and it also happens to be home to the best bar in the world (2026), Bar Leone. There’s food for all budgets, but if you feel splurgey, Hong Kong Island has a side of elegance with fine dining and elite hotels. As for accommodation, the list is endless. From world-renowned hotels to great AirBnBs, the hardest part is simply figuring out what neighborhood you want to stay in.
──What Neighborhoods to Stay in on Hong Kong Island──
Central-
If you don’t have time to research and need a place that will be undeniably accessible to shopping, food, and culture, Central is a great option. It’s not my first choice, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad choice. People often choose Central because of its ease to the ferry terminal (in case you want to pop over to Macau to visit me!), its accessibility to the MTR subway, and the tramways. Plus, you can get to the airport in 24 minutes. Central has a financial district vibe with all the tall buildings and shopping malls, but its appeal is its location to everything else. When my dad came, we stayed at the Four Seasons Hong Kong, which was delightful. But their toilet paper was subpar… this feels necessary to note.

Where to Stay in Central Hong Kong
My Recommendation
High End: Four Seasons Central Hong Kong– Great location to the ferry terminal and the MTR station. Their bar is incredible and the breakfast French toast is some of the best I’ve ever had.
Budget: Mini Hotel Central– This hotel is everything you need, clean and a good bed. The space is cramped, but if you’re only there to sleep, who cares?
Wan Chai-
I love Wan Chai. I usually convince my sisters to stay here when they come to visit me. My favorite restaurants are in this area, whether we’re going out to dinner or grabbing breakfast at a cute cafe. We are very food-motivated people. There’s something about Wan Chai that feels more neighborly. It’s close enough to the skyscrapers in central but far enough away that it feels like you’re closer to where the Hong Kongers live and enjoy a quick coffee at their favorite spot before bustling off to work.

Where to Stay in Wan Chai
My Recommendation
High End: St Regis Hong Kong– I stayed here with my sister, and it was perfectly located to everything we wanted to do. Between walking and the MTR, I don’t think we could’ve found a better spot to stay.
Budget: Woody House– This hotel often has great deals on Agoda.com and was recently renovated in 2024. It’s not elaborate by any means but its good on a budget!
Lan Kwai Fong-
Good luck if this is your choice. I’ve had my fair share of wild nights but I’m not sure I’ve ever committed to staying where “the scene” is. Lan Kwai Fong is a fantastic place to find the noise and socialize, but I wouldn’t recommend it for staying overnight. If you’re draw is the party scene check out Mini Hotel. The name is fitting, but it’s clean, and it’s enough if your goal is to stay out of the room and up as long as possible.

Where to Stay in Lan Kwai Fong Hong Kong
My Recommendation
High End: The Pottinger– Not EXACTLY in Lan Kwai Fong, but it’s only a four-minute walk from it. You’ll get your nightlife, but also a better night’s sleep by not being directly in LKF.
Budget: Mini Hotel Central– I mentioned this hotel earlier, but it’s the go-to for everyone in the cast if we are heading to HK just for a night out. If you’re not interested in Mini Hotel Central, give Homy Central a try.
Causeway Bay–
This is a touch further than Wan Chai but with the MTR you won’t be too far from anything. Causeway Bay’s claim to fame will be that it has the highest concentration of retail. So, if you’re looking to shop, my friends, come this way. Also, I will add that my boyfriend and I stayed at Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbor Hong Kong, the night we went out to see Cirque Du Soleil’s Kooza. And though I may have had a bit too much fun the night before, we got our butts out of bed for breakfast because D***, it was delicious. If I remember correctly, there were beignets with self-serve chocolate and pistachio sauce. Yes, thank you, I will take 7.

Where to Stay in Causeway Bay Hong Kong
My Recommendation
Nina Hotel– This hotel is in the sweet spot for price, so it’s my top recommendation for Causeway Bay. It has a great location, within walking distance of many top attractions in Hong Kong.
Hyatt Centric Victoria Harbor Hong Kong- Location: Great. Breakfast: Incredible. Highly recommend this spot.
Where to Stay in Kowloon
You may think that staying on Kowloon side seems like the other side of the world, but it’s truly not as far as you think. You can take an MTR subway ride and arrive back in Central before even realizing you’ve crossed the water (underwater, might I add, which I think is so cool). Kowloon has just as much nightlife, great dining options, awesome markets, and lots of culture to soak in. Kowloon has better views than Hong Kong Island if that’s what you’re after. If I could do a better job at convincing my visitors that Kowloon isn’t as far from the top attractions in Hong Kong, then I would tell everyone to stay in Kowloon for their Hong Kong trip.

──What Neighborhoods to Stay in Kowloon──
Tsim Sha Tsui-
I love this area! With quick, easy access to Victoria Harbour, it can be a draw to stay in Tsim Sha Tsui. Honestly, as I said before, my boyfriend and I think that the skyline views are better from the Kowloon side than the Hong Kong Side. So take advantage of that when booking your hotel.
This past trip with my dad and step mom, we stayed at the Penninsula and the room was incredible. If you stay at the Penninsula HK, make sure you try the Penninsula High Tea! We did it years before, and I still remember it. This time around we did the high Tea at the Regent, and I HIGHLY recommend it. They have a famous pastry chef Andy Yeung Cheuk Yin, making all of their incredible pastries.

Tsim Sha Tsui Recommendations for Things to Do:
QURA-. Qura overlooks the Avenue of the Stars and the skyline. It’s beautiful and might be my new favorite bar in HK. It’s pricey but worth it for a special night out.
Hong Kong Museum of Art– As of 2026, the tickets are free but always check the website for updated pricing as its been know to change.
Hong Kong Science Museum– The visually stunning building this museum is housed in, is enough of a reason to visit. However, if that’s not enough of a reason, whether you’re a kid at heart of have kids of your own, 70% of the exhibits here are hands on exhibits.
Where to Stay in Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong
My Recommendation
High End: The Peninsula– This hotel is one of the oldest in Hong Kong and holds such a rich history. It’s elegant and romantic, but also has an incredible location right in front of Victoria Harbour.
Budget: Ramada Grand– I have not personally stayed here, but have had a friend give it good reviews. Its location is as good as any, and it’s right near the Hong Kong observatory.
Mongkok-
This will be your budget-friendly option. If you’ve been to Ladies Market, then you’ll have a rough idea of what Mongkok has to offer. Great shopping, but nothing too luxurious. If you’re into street food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this is my recommendation. Staying in Mongkok will give you a different local Hong Kong feeling. If you want some reprise but want to stay where the people are, check out the nicer hotel Cordis. If you’d rather stay in budget-friendlier price range, check out MK Stay or Metropark Hotel Mong Kok. A big draw to staying in Mongkok is its ideal location and connection to the MTR stations.

Ladies Market in Mongkok, Hong Kong
Where to Stay in Mongkok Hong Kong
My Recommendation
High End: The Cordis– A great option for business travelers since it provides an airport transfer! This hotel is near the Ladies Market and the Mongkok MTR station.
Budget: Metropark Hotel Mongkok– This hotel is a tiny bit further from the action, but what it lacks in convenience it makes up for in price. It also offers guests an hourly shuttle to Mongkok Station. With it only being 10 minute walk from Ladies Market, it’s a great option for a budget hotel in Mong Kok.
Yau Ma Tei-
Situated between Mongkok and Tsim Sha Tsui, this is another budget-friendly option. Yau Ma Tei is also home to Temple Street Market if you’re eyeing this area. Other than that, you’re going to be in with the locals here. There are lots of Cantonese restaurants here, holding up high-rise after high-rise. This area has a high-energy feel in a way completely different from central, neither good nor bad, it just depends on what you’re looking for. Unlike Mongkok which is known for its shopping, Yau Ma Tei is known for its higher concentration of historical landmarks like Yau Ma Tei Theatre.

Temple Street Market
Where to Stay on Lantau Island
We love Lantau Island! This is our spot for camping, so if you’re traveling with your tent and sleeping bag for some reason, I would be happy to give you camping location recommendations. Lantau is the jungle area of Hong Kong. You’ll step foot off the ferry and refuse to believe that this too is Hong Kong. And that my friends, is why we love Hong Kong.
──Where to Stay on Lantau Island──
Discovery Bay–
If you want to experience nature with a side of lush, there are some fantastic hotel options here. You can easily access this area from central with the ferry. The only potential downside to be aware of is that this spot is designed for Western tourists. It’s lovely, but if you’re looking for a true Hong Kong experience, maybe don’t stay here. If you want a relaxing getaway that resembles familiarity, take a look at this area.

Where to Stay in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
My Recommendation
Auberge Discovery Bay Hotel– A great hotel for families with proximity to Discovery Bay. The mountain views from this hotel are beautiful.
Mui Wo-
I love Mui Wo. I have not personally stayed here, but I have a co-worker who lives here and loves the peace and quiet. There is some excellent hiking in this area that you need to take advantage of if you stay here. Unfortunately, due to the blissfully quiet nature of Mui Wo, there are not many accommodation options, so plan ahead if this is of interest.

Where to Stay in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
My Recommendation
Mui Wo Inn- A small inn that offers great proximity to hiking and the small village of Mui Wo. It’s not much, but it’s all you need if you’re planning to be out of the room all day.
Some other Hotel options in Lantau, Hong Kong…
Disneyland Hotel- If Disneyland Hong Kong is on your list for a short stay, consider staying in the Disneyland Hotel. For the Disney adults, Disney kids, and everyone in between, this might be your spot. By staying at the Disneyland Hotel, you’ll likely save over 2 hours of travel time to the park. Plus, you’ll get perks like priority to meeting Mickey and friends during breakfast and dinner, or enjoying the indoor/outdoor pool on the property.
Ngong Ping- Ngong Ping will have the best proximity to Big Buddha if that’s the main thing on your list, the most common accommodation option will be YHA Ngong Ping SG Davis Youth Hostel. Because of its exclusivity, there are few accommodation options, if you would like to stay near the Big Buddha, you can also check out places to stay in Tung Chung.
Quick Hong Kong travel guide
Here’s a quick overview of the best times to visit Hong Kong and how to get around the city.
── What is the best time to visit Hong Kong? ──
The best time to visit Hong Kong is generally considered to be between October and December, when the weather is warm but not hot, and the humidity has broken. The city offers the Mid-Autumn Festival with lantern displays, while November sees large-scale events like the Clockenflap music festival and the Hong Kong Open golf tournament. I also tell my friends and family to visit me in November, since that month historically is the best month year in year out (in my humble opinion).
Visiting Hong Kong soon? >> Don’t miss my ultimate guide to The Best Things to do in Hong Kong.
The peak tourist season is during Chinese New Year, Christmas, and New Year’s. Chinese New Year changes depending on the lunar calendar, so every year you will have to check, but typically, Hong Kong will be most crowded between the end of December and February. During these times, the hotel prices will be higher, the top tourists attractions and things to do in Hong Kong will also be the most crowded.
Rainy Season in Hong Kong, from May through September (though I’m finding it’s going through October these last few years), can be quite the buzz kill OR an excellent time to score deals on hotels and airfare. It can rain every day for a month. Or it can downpour for an hour and be beautiful for the rest of the day. It’s a gamble if you’re willing to try. Just know that during these months, the weather can be terribly hot and humid, which isn’t everybody’s cup of tea.

── How to get around Hong Kong ──
Getting around Hong Kong using public transportation is convenient and efficient due to the city’s extensive network of buses, subways, and trams. As long as you’re near an MTR stop, you can get to pretty much anywhere in the city.
The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) is Hong Kong’s primary mode of transportation. It connects Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the new territories. The MTR includes 10 rapid transit lines, a light rail system, and connects to the Mainland Chinese border. Unlike many public transit systems in the USA, rest assured, the MTR is known for being clean and efficient. Trains often run every 2-3 minutes in peak time and every 4-8 minutes in off-peak hours.
Pro tip >> Download the MTR Mobile app or get an Octopus Card downloaded before your trip!
If you plan on staying in central Hong Kong, you will be able to get to most attractions and neighborhoods by MTR or UBER which is now available in Hong Kong. You can use UBER to get a taxi in Hong Kong as well.

── How to get to the city center from Hong Kong International Airport ──
Public transport: If you’re coming from Hong Kong International Airport, take the Airport Express. It’s 130 HKD, and it can drop you straight in Central.
UBER: You can take an Uber from the airport. You can either get UBER Taxi which is metered or an Uber car. These options, however, can be costly. Get ready for a pricetag closer to 300 HKD.
TAXI: Taxis are also an option from getting to Hong Kong International Airport to your hotel. Some taxi drivers will speak english, some will not. Make sure you have your hotel name in Chinese on hand to show your driver.
Share Shuttle: If you don’t want to manage public transit with all of your luggage, I understand. Check out KLOOK to organize a shared shuttle service directly to your hotel. You can reserve directly on the website.

Final thoughts: Where to stay in Hong Kong
For first-time visitors to Hong Kong, staying in Central will give the ease of access via the MTR to top attractions like Victoria Peak and the Peak Tram
As mentioned earlier, Tsim Sha Tsui is my personal favorite because of the iconic views of the Hong Kong Skyline (many of which are from some great rooftop bars), plus easy access to Victoria Harbour. Wan Chai is a close second if you’d prefer to stay on Hong Kong Island and hang with the locals at their favorite coffee shops and cafes.
Did you know…
Vietnam is just over 2 hours from Hong Kong
